Named for its rich coal deposits discovered in the early 1830s, the village was officially platted in 1857 following the establishment of nearby train tracks. Historically, Mineral supported a vibrant community with a school, small businesses, and a population peaking around 350. Today, it maintains a quiet, rural charm with amenities like a grain elevator, a restaurant/tavern, a library, a Methodist Church, and a volunteer fire department.
