About Near North Side

The Near North Side is one of 77 well-defined community areas of Chicago, Illinois. The Near North Side is located north and east of the Chicago River, just north of the central business district (the Loop). To its east is Lake Michigan and its northern boundary is the 19th-century city limit of Chicago, North Avenue. The Near North Side includes the neighborhoods of Cabrini Green, Dearborn Parkway, Gold Coast, Goose Island, Magnificent Mile, Old Town, River North, River West, State Parkway, and Streeterville.

It comprises the neighborhoods of Gold Coast, Magnificent Mile, Old Town, River North, Rush & Division, and Streeterville. Near North Side is home to all or part of the following zip codes: 60611, 60610, 60654, and 60642.

Gold Coast

Gold Coast is a historic district in the Near North Side community of Chicago. It's boundaries are North Avenue to the north, Lake Shore Drive to the east, Clark Street to the west and Oak Street to the south. The neighborhood is a mixture of mansions, row houses and high-rise apartments. As of 2011, Gold Coast ranked as the 7th richest urban neighborhood in America.

Magnificent Mile

The Magnificent Mile is an upscale section of Chicago's Michigan Avenue running from the Chicago River to Oak Street in the Near North Side. It is located adjacent to downtown, one block east of Rush Street. The Magnificent Mile is the main thoroughfare between the Chicago Loop's business district and the Gold Coast. It is currently Chicago's largest shopping district and several of the tallest buildings in the United States are located in the Magnificent Mile including the John Hancock Center and Trump International Hotel and Tower. Landmarks along the Magnificent Mile include the Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower and Chicago Water Tower.

Old Town is a neighborhood in the North Side of Chicago. It is home to many of Chicago's older Victorian era buildings, including St. Michael's Church, one of seven buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire.

River North

River North is a neighborhood in the Near North Side area of Chicago. River North is known for its fine dining, galleries, nightlife and riverwalk amenities. It is bounded by Michigan Avenue to the east, Chicago Avenue to the north and the Chicago River to the south and west.

Rush & Division

Rush & Division is a neighborhood in the Near North Side area of Chicago. The borders are Division Street on the north, Superior Street on the south, Clark Street on the west and Rush Street on the east. Many popular Chicago restaurants and hotels are located in the Rush & Division neighborhood including Gibson's Steak House and Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile and the Waldorf Astoria.
Streeterville

Streeterville

Streeterville is a neighborhood in the Near North Side community of Chicago. It is bounded by the Chicago River on the south, the Magnificent Mile portion of Michigan Avenue on the west, Oak Street and Lake Shore Drive on the north and Lake Michigan on the east. Named for George Streeter, it contains many hotels, restaurants, office centers, residential high rises, universities and medical facilities.
