Water is the dominant strategic element; several holes route alongside or over the ponds, requiring players to judge carry distances over the water or to lay up short of the hazards. The prevailing westerly wind can add or subtract distance on the longer holes that run parallel to the main irrigation canal. Maintenance is handled by a small crew that keeps cart paths freshly edged and the rough cut at a playable height.
