Boulder Ridge Country Club occupies a 320-acre site in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. Its 18-hole layout, designed by Dick Nugent and opened in 1990, threads through a former gravel quarry, leaving exposed limestone outcrops and elevation changes of more than 40 feet. The fairways are a blend of bentgrass and Kentucky bluegrass, while the greens are predominantly Penncross bentgrass. Naturalized fescue roughs, two ponds fed by the adjacent Crystal Lake aquifer, and stands of mature burr oak define the terrain. The clubhouse, a 42,000-square-foot limestone-and-cedar structure completed in 1992, contains a 225-seat ballroom, a grill room, and locker facilities. Practice amenities include a 10-acre range with target greens and a short-game area surfaced with the same bentgrass used on the course. Membership is capped at 400 golfing members, and the club hosts the Illinois PGA’s annual Section Championship on a rotating basis.
