Colonial Country Club occupies flat terrain in southern Fort Myers, where the Caloosahatchee River runs within sight of several holes. The course was designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1990; its fairways follow the natural drainage patterns of the region, crossing small cypress strands and low-lying wetlands. Bermuda grass covers the teeing areas and greens, which are rebuilt with TifEagle ultradwarf each decade. Water hazards appear on fourteen holes, most often as narrow ditches lined with native grasses rather than large ponds. The layout moves from open parkland to tighter corridors framed by sabal palms and slash pines, with prevailing southeast winds influencing club selection on the longer par fours that play into the afternoon breeze. Maintenance standards include daily rolling of the greens and regular verticutting to manage thatch. Cart paths are concrete and kept separate from play corridors to reduce wear on the turf edges.
