Country Club of Columbus occupies a 250-acre tract along the Chattahoochee River in Columbus, Georgia. Designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1913, the course features rolling fairways shaped by natural ridges and shallow drainage swales. Greens are built to Ross’s typical specifications, with subtle crowns and firm turf maintained at low mowing heights. Several holes parallel the riverbank, where mature hardwoods and pines frame approaches, while others climb inland across former pastureland now covered by Bermuda grass. A small tributary creek crosses four holes, creating diagonal carries on the second, seventh, tenth, and fourteenth. The club’s original 1913 clubhouse, a two-story brick structure with white-columned portico, remains in use and overlooks the eighteenth green. Maintenance records indicate consistent use of sand-based greens mixes since a 1998 reconstruction, and the irrigation system draws directly from the river under a state permit renewed in 2017.
