Erin Hills is a golf course located in Hartford, Wisconsin. Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry, and Ron Whitten, the course opened in 2006 and hosted the 2017 U.S. Open. The layout follows the natural topography of glacial terrain, featuring rolling hills, native fescue grasses, and scattered wetlands. Fairways are routed through open meadows and wooded areas, with several holes incorporating elevation changes and strategic bunkering. The course uses minimal irrigation and maintains native plant species throughout. The 1st hole begins with a short par four that drops downhill toward a wetland area, while later holes include long par threes and reachable par fives that require precise shot placement. Greens are built to USGA standards with subtle contours that influence approach shots and putting lines. The course does not use carts on a regular basis, requiring players to walk between holes.
