Fairlakes Golf Club sits on former farmland north of Secor, Illinois, where a series of low, rolling ridges and natural depressions shape the layout. The first four holes run along a creek that crosses the property twice, requiring carries over water on the second and fourth. Fairway width narrows noticeably on the inward nine, where mature stands of oak and hickory line both sides and force tee shots to stay below the canopy. Several greens are elevated six to eight feet above the surrounding grade, with subtle back-to-front slopes that make approach shots played short of the putting surface the safer option. The course maintains bentgrass tees and greens, while Kentucky bluegrass covers the fairways and first-cut rough. Irrigation heads are spaced on twenty-five-foot centers, allowing the superintendent to keep greens firm during summer play. Cart paths are asphalt and run primarily on the left side of each hole, except on the par-five ninth, where the path crosses behind the green to reach the tenth tee.
