Glen Arven Country Club occupies a 160-acre tract in Thomasville, Georgia, that has been used for golf since 1896, making it one of the state’s oldest continuously operated courses. The layout, originally designed by Donald Ross and later altered by Bill Amick, moves through gently rolling terrain shaded by large live oaks and longleaf pines. Fairways are predominantly TifEagle Bermuda, bordered by rough that can be thick after rain. Water hazards appear on eight holes, most notably a pond that fronts the par-three tenth and a stream that crosses the seventh and eighteenth fairways. The greens are small by modern standards, slope at an average of 4 percent, and are maintained at 0.110-inch mowing height. Bunkers are primarily flat-bottomed, flashed-sand revetments placed to guard front and side approaches rather than wrap around greens. Cart paths are asphalt and follow the perimeter of most holes, keeping foot traffic off putting surfaces. The clubhouse, a white-columned structure built in 1927, sits on a low rise overlooking the eighteenth green and contains a grille, locker rooms, and a small pro shop.
