Grayhawk Golf Club’s Raptor Course winds across the high Sonoran Desert north of Scottsdale, where fairways follow the natural contours of low-lying arroyos and shallow ravines. Designer Tom Fazio positioned most landing areas on gentle rises so that tee shots play slightly uphill, while many second shots descend toward elevated, firm greens that slope from back to front. Native desert vegetation—saguaro, ocotillo, and brittlebush—frames each hole and creates tight margins around the edges of the fairway. Water appears on only three holes, all in the form of small ponds that guard the final approaches on the back nine. Bunkers are edged with native desert soil rather than traditional white sand, producing firmer lies and more varied shot options. The routing returns to the clubhouse after both nine-hole segments, allowing players to pause between nines if desired.
