Jacksonville Country Club sits on the western edge of Jacksonville, Illinois, where the land slopes gently toward Mauvaise Terre Creek. The course was originally laid out in 1907 and has been altered only once, in 1969, when several fairways were shifted to accommodate a new irrigation system. Native oak and hickory trees line most landing areas, and the rough is kept deliberately thin, exposing the clay-heavy soil that becomes firm and fast after dry spells. The greens, built to USGA specifications in 1998, are composed of Penn A-4 bentgrass and are mowed at 0.110 inches during peak season. Water comes into play on five holes, most notably at the par-3 fourth, where a pond short of the green forces a carry of roughly 150 yards. Drainage tiles installed beneath the fairways in the early 2000s keep the course playable within hours after heavy rain. The practice facility includes a 300-yard grass range and a short-game area with three target greens.
