Moon Valley Country Club occupies a 160-acre site in the Moon Valley neighborhood of north Phoenix. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1961. Its routing takes players across gently rolling terrain that includes natural desert washes and stands of mature palo verde, ironwood, and saguaro. Fairways are lined with Bermuda grass overseeded with rye in winter, while elevated tees offer views of the McDowell and White Tank mountain ranges. The club maintains a driving range, practice greens, and a short-game area equipped with bunkers of varying sand depths. The clubhouse, expanded in 2002, houses a 300-seat dining room, men’s and women’s locker facilities, and administrative offices. Irrigation is supplied by a combination of treated effluent and on-site wells, allowing the turf to remain playable through the Sonoran Desert’s extreme summer heat.
