Nemadji Golf Club’s North-South layout in Superior, Wisconsin, occupies a 320-acre tract of gently rolling glacial till just south of the city. The routing alternates between open, windswept fairways and tighter corridors framed by mature aspen and pine. Drainage ditches and small wetlands cross several holes, forcing players to consider wind-aided carries and firm, fast greens that slope away from the prevailing northwest breeze. The greens, built to USGA specifications and seeded with Penn A-4 bentgrass, are large but subtly contoured, rewarding approaches played to specific quadrants rather than the center. Sand bunkers are modest in size yet strategically placed, often guarding the low side of the putting surface or the inside corner of doglegs. Native rough consists of a fine fescue blend that punishes offline shots without slowing play. The course’s northern location produces cooler spring and fall conditions, so the bentgrass fairways retain color and density later into the season than comparable inland layouts.
