RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield, Wisconsin, occupies flat terrain on the city’s western edge. The layout uses mature oak and maple trees to define fairways and create natural separation between holes. A creek crosses several holes, entering play on both par-3 and par-4 holes, and requires carries that vary with seasonal water levels. The greens are bentgrass and are kept firm by consistent rolling. Fairways are Kentucky bluegrass, cut short enough to reward accurate drives while penalizing shots that miss the short grass. Bunkers are placed primarily to guard the front and sides of greens rather than the landing areas, so players who miss the greens in regulation face recovery shots from sand. The course has no dramatic elevation changes, so wind, rather than slope, becomes the principal variable on most shots. Cart paths follow the perimeter of each hole, keeping foot traffic off the playing surfaces.
