Rogala Public Links, Mattoon, IL, Real Estate
Rogala Public Links occupies flat terrain on the eastern edge of Mattoon. The course consists of bentgrass fairways and tees separated by rough that is cut at fairway height rather than left long. A drainage ditch runs diagonally across three holes and is crossed by narrow bridges that force precise tee shots. Several mature oak trees stand close to the edges of the greens, creating tight angles on approaches. The putting surfaces are small, slightly crowned, and mowed to a moderate speed; most are guarded on at least one side by modest sand traps. Irrigation heads are spaced at regular intervals, keeping the turf uniformly green through the summer months. A modest clubhouse sits near the first tee and provides a basic pro shop and snack counter. The layout has no water hazards other than the ditch, and the absence of elevation changes keeps every hole in clear view from the preceding green.
