Sand Valley Golf Resort - Mammoth Dunes Course, Nekoosa, WI, Real Estate
Sand Valley Golf Resort’s Mammoth Dunes course sits on a former glacial lakebed in central Wisconsin. Architect David McLay Kidd shaped the site’s exposed sand ridges and deep blowouts into a layout that favors ground play over aerial attack. Fairways thread between tall marram grass and stunted oaks, while large, undulating greens tilt toward natural depressions that collect shots. Deep bunkers with steep faces guard the landing areas, and many holes sit below the surrounding terrain, creating a sense of enclosure. The course uses native fescue and little irrigation, so firmness and run vary with seasonal rainfall. Wind moves across the open landscape without obstruction, altering club selection from tee to green. A single creek crosses the property twice, but most holes rely on sand and elevation changes for definition rather than water hazards. Cart paths are minimal; walking is the intended method of play.
