Wilson Country Club occupies a flat coastal-plain site in eastern North Carolina, where the fairways run through a grid of drainage ditches and old farm-field boundaries. The original nine holes were laid out in the late 1920s on former tobacco fields; the second nine was added in the early 1960s, creating two distinct loops separated by a narrow belt of loblolly pines. Bermuda-grass fairways are bordered by hard-pan sand, while the greens are built to USGA specifications and overseeded with rye each winter. Water hazards appear on eight holes, mainly in the form of irrigation ponds and relict drainage canals. The routing alternates between open, wind-exposed holes on the eastern side and tighter, tree-lined holes on the western side, producing regular cross-breezes that affect club selection on approaches. Cart paths follow the perimeter of each hole, minimizing interference with natural drainage patterns.
