Manistee Ranch is a historic gem in Glendale, Arizona, located at 5127 W. Northern Avenue, just northwest of downtown. Established in 1897 by Herbert W. Hamilton, a Wisconsin lumberman, the 320-acre property was initially a citrus and date orchard, capitalizing on the irrigation from the Arizona Canal completed in 1885. In 1907, Louis M. Sands, a Michigan businessman, purchased it, renaming it after his hometown, Manistee, and transforming it into a cattle ranching hub with innovative pasture rotation techniques. The centerpiece is a Queen Anne Revival-style mansion, featuring a distinctive "Sky Parlor" tower, alongside a restored barn, garage, office, and an 85-year-old date orchard. Acquired by the Glendale Arizona Historical Society and the City of Glendale in 1996, the four-acre site is now a National Register of Historic Places landmark, offering tours from October to May on the first and third Saturdays, showcasing period furnishings and local history.
