Armory Park occupies a 20-acre former military site along Waukegan’s lakefront, now maintained by the Waukegan Park District. A paved, 1.7-mile multi-use trail follows the shoreline and connects directly to the Robert McClory Bike Path, giving residents a continuous off-road route to North Chicago and Lake Bluff. The park’s central lawn includes a playground with ADA-accessible equipment, two lighted tennis courts, and a 9-hole disc-golf course that winds through mature oak stands. Anglers access the harbor breakwater from a dedicated fishing pier, while a small boat launch provides day-use entry to Lake Michigan for kayakers and small craft. Restrooms, drinking fountains, and free parking are located at the Sheridan Road entrance. The park lies four blocks east of downtown Waukegan’s Metra station and within two miles of the county courthouse, regional hospital, and grocery stores on Grand Avenue, allowing residents to reach work, errands, or commuter rail on foot or by bicycle.
