Belmont Prairie Nature Preserve, Downers Grove, IL

Belmont Prairie Nature Preserve covers 80 acres of preserved tallgrass prairie between Belmont Road and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks in Downers Grove. A 0.7-mile crushed-limestone loop trail runs along the perimeter, connecting to the north–south Illinois Prairie Path and providing direct bicycle access to downtown Downers Grove and the Metra BNSF station. The open landscape offers unobstructed views of seasonal wildflowers and native grasses, with scattered benches and a small parking area off Belmont Road. Because the preserve sits within a residential grid, homeowners can reach it on foot in minutes, yet it remains separated from surrounding streets by dense vegetation and a drainage swale that reduces road noise. Adjacent neighborhoods also lie within a mile of Downers Grove’s library, parks with lighted sports fields, and Interstate 355, combining on-site recreation with everyday conveniences.
