Brookdale Conservation Area in Woodstock, Illinois, covers 80 acres of restored prairie, woodland, and wetland habitat managed by the McHenry County Conservation District. A 1.7-mile crushed-limestone loop trail and several spur paths wind through the preserve, connecting visitors to two fishing ponds stocked with bluegill and largemouth bass, an archery range, and a picnic shelter with grills and restrooms. The trail system links directly to the adjacent Pleasant Valley Conservation Area, extending hiking and equestrian opportunities farther west. A designated dog-friendly section and seasonal waterfowl hunting draw local residents year-round. The preserve sits less than two miles south of Woodstock’s historic square and Metra station, placing shopping, restaurants, and commuter rail within a short drive or bike ride of surrounding neighborhoods.
