Candycane Park, Brookfield, IL

Candycane Park occupies 20 acres at the corner of 31st Street and Prairie Avenue in Brookfield. Its centerpiece is an outdoor ice rink open from late November through early March, surrounded by a paved walking loop that connects to the adjacent Prairie Path trail system. In warmer months the rink converts to two full-size basketball courts and four sand volleyball courts. A 1.2-mile fitness circuit with ten exercise stations runs along the park’s northern edge, while a separate 0.8-mile nature trail passes through restored prairie and wetland areas. The playground features a large climbing structure and splash pad fed by an on-site well. Two reservable picnic shelters, each with electrical service, sit near the parking lot, which holds 120 spaces. Restrooms and drinking fountains are located at the main shelter. The park is two blocks from the Brookfield Metra station on the BNSF line and one mile from the Brookfield Zoo, giving residents quick access to both commuter rail service and regional cultural attractions.
