Cardinal Park sits at the center of Palatine’s east side, offering residents direct access to the 1.6-mile paved loop that circles the park and connects to the larger Palatine Trail system. The loop accommodates walkers, joggers, and cyclists and is lined with mature trees that provide shade in summer. A lighted athletic field hosts youth soccer and baseball leagues, while four lighted tennis courts and two pickleball courts remain open until 10 p.m. The playground includes adaptive equipment and a separate splash pad that operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A 12,000-square-foot community recreation building contains a fitness room, meeting rooms, and restrooms, and its parking lot feeds directly onto Rohlwing Road, giving drivers quick entry to Illinois Route 53 less than a mile away. The park’s central lawn is framed by native prairie plantings that attract seasonal birds, and the adjacent pond is stocked annually for catch-and-release fishing. Street parking is permitted along the bordering residential streets, allowing neighbors to reach the park without crossing major roads.
