Cartwright Park sits in northwest Evanston, bounded by Church Street, Darrow Avenue, and the Metra Union Pacific North Line tracks. The 10-acre site features a lighted baseball diamond with dugouts, two full basketball courts, a playground with rubber surfacing, and a fenced dog run with separate areas for small and large dogs. A crushed-stone loop path circles the park perimeter, connecting to the city’s sidewalk network and providing a flat, 0.6-mile route for walking or jogging. Mature oaks and maples line the edges, while open turf in the center allows for informal field sports. Restrooms and a drinking fountain are located near the parking lot off Darrow, and the park is a short walk from the Central Street business district, which includes grocery stores, restaurants, and the Central Street Metra station. During summer months the city schedules youth baseball games and occasional movie nights on the ball-field outfield.
