Chain O Lakes State Park covers 2,793 acres of rolling terrain and seven lakes connected by the Fox River in Spring Grove, Illinois. A 6.2-mile multi-use trail loops through the park, and the 3.5-mile Peninsula Trail provides lake views and access to a swimming beach. The park maintains 222 campsites, six boat launches, and a 1.5-mile equestrian trail. Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards at the concession stand, while anglers target northern pike, walleye, and largemouth bass in the connected waterways. The McHenry County Conservation District also operates 15 miles of adjacent trails, extending opportunities for hiking and biking beyond park boundaries. The park is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and is served by U.S. Route 12 and Illinois Route 173, providing direct access to shopping, schools, and medical facilities in nearby McHenry, Woodstock, and Crystal Lake.
