Coast Guard Park, Northbrook, IL

Coast Guard Park spans 27 acres along the west fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. The park includes a 0.6-mile paved loop trail suitable for walking, jogging, and cycling, with benches placed at regular intervals. A playground with modern equipment serves children ages two to twelve, while an adjacent open field supports informal sports and picnics. Two reservable picnic shelters each seat up to 40 people and are equipped with grills and electrical outlets. The riverbank offers fishing access for species such as bluegill and largemouth bass, and the park maintains a small boat launch for non-motorized craft. Mature oak and maple trees provide shade along the trails and around the shelters. Restrooms and drinking fountains operate seasonally, and the park is connected to the regional North Branch Trail system, allowing users to travel several miles without entering roadways. Street parking is available on adjacent residential streets, and the Metra Milwaukee District North line station is approximately one mile away.
