Cornell Park, Des Plaines, IL

Cornell Park sits between the Des Plaines River and the Union Pacific Northwest rail line, giving residents direct access to the Des Plaines River Trail for walking, running, and bicycling. The 17-acre park features a lighted baseball field, two full-size soccer fields, and six lighted tennis courts that are available year-round. A 1.3-mile perimeter loop path circles the open turf and picnic grove, while the adjacent Des Plaines River provides opportunities for kayaking and fishing. The park is bordered by Lake Opeka to the north and connects to Lake Park’s 18-hole golf course via a pedestrian bridge. A playground and two sheltered picnic areas are positioned near the parking lot off Thacker Street, and the Metra station at Des Plaines is a ten-minute walk from the south entrance.
