Courtland Park occupies 26 acres in central Niles, bounded by Touhy Avenue to the north and Caldwell Avenue to the east. The park’s main loop trail, approximately three-quarters of a mile long and surfaced in crushed limestone, circles a retention pond stocked with bluegill and channel catfish. Anglers thirteen and older need an Illinois fishing license. On the west side of the pond, two lighted tennis courts and four pickleball courts sit adjacent to a playground equipped with adaptive swings and a poured-in-place rubber surface. East of the water, six full-size soccer fields host Niles Park District youth leagues from April through October. Two picnic shelters with electrical outlets and drinking fountains are available by reservation, while an open-air fitness area near the Caldwell entrance includes pull-up bars, dip stations, and leg-press machines. Mature cottonwoods and bur oaks provide shade along the eastern edge, and the park’s flat topography offers clear sightlines from Touhy to the soccer fields. Public restrooms remain open year-round, and the lot off Overhill Avenue supplies roughly 120 striped spaces, including six accessible stalls. Courtland Park connects directly to the unpaved North Branch Trail segment maintained by the Forest Preserves of Cook County, allowing cyclists to continue north toward the Des Plaines River trail system without crossing Touhy Avenue.
