Cynthia T. Peterson Park spans 22 acres along the Des Plaines River in Vernon Hills and includes a 1.8-mile paved trail that connects to the Des Plaines River Trail system. An 18-hole disc golf course winds through oak and hickory woodland, and a fishing pier extends into a stocked pond. The park sits within a mile of the Hawthorn Mall and multiple grocery stores, and it is served by the Vernon Hills Metra station two miles to the south.
