Esper Petersen Park, Gurnee, IL

Esper Petersen Park spans 80 acres along the Des Plaines River in Gurnee. The park offers a 2.5-mile paved trail that connects to the Des Plaines River Trail, providing direct access for walking, jogging, and cycling. An 18-hole disc golf course, two playgrounds, and multiple picnic shelters with grills are available for daily use. Two fishing ponds stocked with bass and bluegill, plus river access points for kayaking and canoeing, add water-based recreation. Open turf fields accommodate soccer, baseball, and informal sports. The park sits within three miles of Gurnee Mills shopping center and Interstate 94, and is adjacent to Warren Township High School. Mature trees line the river corridor, and a small wetland area supports seasonal bird observation. Restrooms and ample parking are provided year-round.
