Exner Marsh Conservation Area covers 245 acres of wetlands, prairie, and woodland in Lake in the Hills. The site includes a 1.7-mile crushed-limestone trail that loops around open water and cattail marsh, plus an elevated boardwalk that extends into the marsh for wildlife viewing. Two observation decks overlook the main pond, which attracts migratory waterfowl and nesting herons. A gravel parking area at the trailhead provides restrooms and a drinking fountain. The preserve sits less than two miles from the Algonquin–Lake in the Hills municipal complex, the Lake in the Hills Library, and several grocery stores along Randall Road. Local schools use the site for field trips, and the Lake in the Hills Park District maintains the trailhead and boardwalk.
