Firemans Park, Evanston, IL

Firemans Park occupies 4.7 acres along the North Shore Channel in northwest Evanston, directly adjacent to the Green Bay Trail. The park includes a lighted baseball diamond with bleachers, two tennis courts, a playground with rubber surfacing, and a small picnic shelter. A paved loop path circles the perimeter, connecting to the regional Green Bay Trail that runs from Wilmette to Chicago. The park’s east edge borders the Evanston Ecology Center, whose native-plant gardens and demonstration rain garden are visible from the trail. Street parking is available along Poplar Avenue, and the park sits three blocks west of Central Street’s retail corridor, where the Metra Union Pacific North Line station provides daily commuter service to downtown Chicago. Mature oak and maple trees shade most of the grounds, and the channel provides a consistent water view from the eastern edge of the property.
