Fischer Woods Forest Preserve in Bensenville covers 123 acres of preserved woodland and wetland along the Salt Creek corridor. Visitors enter through a parking area on Jefferson Street that leads to a 1.5-mile crushed-stone loop trail winding through mature oak and hickory stands. The path connects to a boardwalk that crosses a cattail marsh, where herons and waterfowl are frequently observed. A short spur trail reaches a fishing pier on a small retention pond stocked by the Forest Preserve District. Restrooms and a picnic shelter with tables and grills sit near the main trailhead, while several benches are spaced along the route for resting. The preserve lies within two miles of Bensenville Metra station and is bordered on the south by the Illinois Prairie Path, allowing cyclists to reach downtown Elmhurst or the Ned Brown Preserve without using busy roads. Its location between O’Hare and downtown Chicago places both employment centers and regional shopping within a short drive, yet the tree canopy and water features create a distinct separation from surrounding residential streets.
