Florsheim Nature Preserve, Lincolnshire, IL

Florsheim Nature Preserve covers 91 acres of oak-hickory woodland, wetland, and restored prairie along the Des Plaines River corridor in Lincolnshire. The site’s 3.1-mile trail system includes a 1.2-mile accessible loop and a boardwalk that crosses seasonal wetlands, offering level walking, jogging, and bird-watching routes. Visitors can fish the river from two designated banks, launch non-motorized boats at the small gravel put-in, and use the picnic shelters and restrooms located near the parking area on Milwaukee Avenue. The preserve sits less than one mile from the Metra Milwaukee District North line and is bordered by the 21-mile Des Plaines River Trail, allowing residents to connect to neighboring forest preserves without driving. Seasonal wildflower blooms and fall color in the upland forest provide changing scenery throughout the year.
