Gander Mountain Forest Preserve spans 1,350 acres of rolling glacial moraine in western Lake County. Its 5.5-mile trail system includes a 1.8-mile loop around 18-acre Dogbone Lake and a 3-mile out-and-back to the summit of Gander Mountain, the highest point in the county at 1,030 feet. The preserve offers fishing piers, a boat launch, and picnic shelters at the lake, plus equestrian parking and 3.7 miles of marked bridle trails. From the summit, clear-day views extend across the Chain O’Lakes region. The site is adjacent to Antioch’s 36-hole public golf course and five minutes from downtown Antioch’s Metra station on the North Central Service line to Chicago. Nearby Route 173 provides direct access to I-94, linking the preserve to both Milwaukee and the northern Chicago suburbs within a 45-minute drive.
