Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve covers 891 acres in southern Crete Township and features 5.3 miles of trails through mature oak woodlands, restored prairies, and wetlands. The preserve maintains a 2.5-mile equestrian trail separate from the hiking paths, plus a 1.5-mile paved loop that accommodates bicycles. Picnic shelters, restrooms, and a playground sit near the main entrance on Goodenow Road, while an archery range and model-airplane field occupy designated zones farther inside the property. Two fishing ponds stocked by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources draw local anglers year-round. The site lies three miles south of Crete’s downtown business district and within a 15-minute drive of both Interstate 57 and U.S. Route 30, providing quick access to regional shopping and commuting routes without direct exposure to heavy traffic.
