Half Day Forest Preserve covers 183 acres in Vernon Hills and includes over three miles of trails open to hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. The North Branch Trail runs through the property, providing a continuous path that connects to other Lake County forest preserves. A 1.3-mile paved loop is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, while the remaining trails vary in surface and elevation. Picnic shelters with tables and grills are available by reservation, and restrooms are located near the main parking area on Milwaukee Avenue. The preserve borders the Des Plaines River, offering views of the waterway and adjacent wetlands that support seasonal bird migrations.
