Hammel Woods Forest Preserve spans over 500 acres along the DuPage River in Shorewood, Illinois. The preserve features more than 8 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, including a 3.5-mile crushed limestone path and a 1.5-mile equestrian trail. A dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs provides off-leash recreation. The DuPage River offers fishing access and a canoe/kayak launch point. Picnic shelters, restrooms, and parking lots are located near the main entrance off Black Road. The preserve connects to the Shorewood Bike Path, allowing residents to reach downtown Shorewood without driving. Open meadows, wooded sections, and river views create varied scenery throughout the year. Proximity to Route 59 and Interstate 55 places the preserve within a short drive of shopping centers and restaurants in Shorewood and Joliet.
