Harrison Benwell Conservation Area covers 170 acres of restored prairie and woodland in northern McHenry County. A 2.4-mile crushed-stone trail loops through the property, connecting to the 40-mile Prairie Trail system for longer bike rides or runs. Anglers access Wonder Lake from a public boat launch inside the conservation area, while designated shore-fishing spots sit within a short walk of the parking lot. Two picnic shelters and a reservable group site provide space for gatherings, and an archery range operates on weekends. The site’s rolling terrain offers sight lines across the 750-acre lake and distant wooded ridges. From the main entrance, Illinois Route 120 is less than a mile away, placing shoppers in Crystal Lake or Woodstock within a 15-minute drive and commuters to the Harvard Metra station within 25 minutes.
