Helm Woods Forest Preserve covers 363 acres in Barrington Hills and features a 2.4-mile loop trail system open to hiking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. The preserve’s rolling terrain passes through mature oak woodlands, open meadows, and a restored wetland basin that supports seasonal waterfowl. Parking areas at the main entrance on Bateman Road include trailer-friendly spaces for equestrian users, and the trailhead connects directly to the regional Cuba Marsh Trail corridor. Picnic tables and portable restrooms are provided, but overnight camping is prohibited. The preserve lies within a 10-minute drive of downtown Barrington’s Metra station, grocery stores, and schools, allowing residents to reach daily services without leaving the Barrington Hills zip code.
