Highland & 39th Park, Downers Grove, IL

Highland & 39th Park occupies 22 acres of open space at the corner of Highland Avenue and 39th Street in Downers Grove. The park features a paved multi-use trail that connects to the 11-mile Downers Grove Bikeway system, allowing residents to reach downtown Downers Grove or the Lisle Recreation Center by bicycle or on foot. Two lighted tennis courts, a basketball court, and a fenced playground with rubberized surfacing are clustered near the parking lot. The northern section contains two full-size soccer fields and a smaller practice field bordered by a stand of mature oaks that provide shade for spectators. A 1.2-acre retention pond on the east edge supports seasonal waterfowl and is ringed by a crushed-stone path used for jogging. Restrooms and drinking fountains are located in a masonry building adjacent to the playground. The park is a five-minute drive from the Main Street Metra station and within a mile of two grocery stores and a branch of the Downers Grove Public Library.
