Isle a la Cache Preserve, Romeoville, IL

Isle a la Cache Preserve covers 189 acres of riverfront land along the Des Plaines River in Romeoville. The preserve includes 2.3 miles of paved and natural-surface trails that run through floodplain forest, prairie, and wetland habitats. Visitors can launch kayaks or canoes from the canoe launch at the 135th Street entrance and paddle the Des Plaines River Water Trail. The preserve also features a fishing pier, picnic shelters, and restrooms near the main parking area. The Isle a la Cache Museum, operated by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, displays artifacts and interpretive exhibits about the area’s Native American and French voyageur history. The site is located less than two miles from the Romeoville Metra station and within a ten-minute drive of Interstate 55, giving residents direct access to downtown Chicago and regional employment centers while maintaining immediate outdoor recreation opportunities.
