King Park sits at the corner of North Avenue and North Jackson Street, giving Waukegan residents a 21-acre green space anchored by a 1.3-mile paved loop trail. The trail connects to the city’s larger North Shore Trail system, allowing runners, cyclists, and walkers to continue along the Lake Michigan shoreline without leaving pavement. Inside the park, four lighted tennis courts, two full-size baseball diamonds, and a soccer field support organized leagues, while a playground and picnic shelters with grills serve casual family use. A sledding hill on the park’s western edge provides winter recreation, and the open lawn draws kite flyers and picnickers in warmer months. The park’s central location places it within a five-minute drive of downtown Waukegan’s restaurants and the Metra Union Pacific North station, and Waukegan Public Library’s main branch is two blocks south. Mature oaks line the parking lot, offering shade for vehicles and a modest buffer from surrounding streets.
