Kishwaukee Fen Nature Preserve spans 73 acres in Lakewood, IL, with a network of mowed and boardwalk trails that cross through sedge meadow, fen, and oak woodland habitats. The 1.3-mile main loop trail is surfaced for walking, jogging, and cross-country skiing, while an ADA-accessible boardwalk provides wheelchair access to an observation platform overlooking the spring-fed wetland. Visitors can observe sandhill cranes, Blanding’s turtles, and over 200 native plant species documented on site. The preserve sits within a 10-minute drive of the Lakewood Forest Preserve’s 18-hole disc golf course and the 27-hole Whisper Creek Golf Club, and it is three miles from the Lakewood Village Hall and its adjacent playgrounds and baseball fields. Parking is available at the preserve’s main lot off Haligus Road, with restrooms open seasonally.
