Lunt Park, Evanston, IL

Lunt Park occupies a central block in Evanston between Lunt Avenue and Greenleaf Street, bordered by residential streets on three sides and the Metra Union Pacific North Line on the fourth. A paved perimeter loop measures roughly one-third of a mile and connects to the city’s bicycle network at the southwest corner. Inside the loop, open turf fields are marked for soccer and kickball, while a fenced playground with composite structures and rubber surfacing sits near the Lunt entrance. Two lighted tennis courts and an adjacent basketball court occupy the southeast quadrant. Mature oaks and maples line the sidewalks, and a small rain-garden basin near the railroad right-of-way manages stormwater from surrounding blocks. Restrooms and a drinking fountain are located in a brick utility building that also houses seasonal maintenance equipment. The park is three blocks north of the Main Street commercial district and one block east of the Metra station, giving residents walking access to grocery stores, restaurants, and commuter trains without crossing major arterial roads.
