Lyman Woods Forest Preserve in Downers Grove covers 150 acres of oak woodland, savanna, and wetland, with 2.5 miles of marked trails that include both a self-guided interpretive loop and a natural-surface path running along St. Joseph Creek. The preserve is open daily from sunrise to sunset and provides free parking at the main lot off 31st Street. A short boardwalk section crosses a sedge meadow where seasonal wildflowers and migratory birds are visible. The site is adjacent to the Downers Grove Public Library and a short drive from the Main Street business district, where shops and the Metra commuter station are located. Local schools use the preserve for science field trips, and volunteer-led bird walks are scheduled several times each month through the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
