Margaret T. Burroughs Beach and Park occupies 13 acres along Lake Michigan’s shoreline in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. The park features a 1,000-foot public beach with lifeguard stations during summer months and a concrete boat launch for small watercraft. A 0.8-mile paved lakefront path connects the park to the larger Lakefront Trail, used by cyclists and runners. On-site facilities include two tennis courts, a softball field, a playground, and restrooms. Picnic groves with grills and tables sit under mature cottonwood and oak trees, and a fishing pier extends into the lake. The park is bordered by the South Shore Cultural Center to the north and Rainbow Beach to the south, and it lies within a five-minute drive of the 71st Street Metra station and Lake Shore Drive.
