Marion Mahony Griffin Beach Park occupies 20 acres of Lake Michigan shoreline between 79th and 83rd Streets. The park’s central feature is a 1,200-foot concrete promenade that runs directly along the water’s edge, offering unobstructed views of the Chicago skyline. A 1.4-mile asphalt path connects the park to the larger Lakefront Trail system, allowing residents to walk or cycle north toward the Museum Campus or south toward Rainbow Beach without entering city streets. Two playgrounds sit on the inland side of the promenade, each with rubberized surfacing and separate areas for toddlers and older children. The park also includes lighted tennis courts, an outdoor fitness area with pull-up bars and dip stations, and a beach-volleyball court. A 60-car parking lot is located off South Shore Drive, with additional metered spaces along 79th Street. The park is served by the CTA bus routes 15 and 79, each stopping within a two-block walk of the main entrance.
