Marl Flat Forest Preserve covers 150 acres of rolling terrain with oak-hickory woodlands and several small kettle lakes. A 2.2-mile crushed-stone loop trail and shorter spurs allow residents to walk, jog, or bike without leaving the neighborhood. Two fishing piers on the largest lake are stocked annually, and a picnic shelter with restrooms and drinking water stands near the main parking area. The preserve connects via a paved path to the 3-mile Grant Woods Trail, extending options for longer outings. Open fields along the northern edge host seasonal wildflowers and migratory songbirds, while the southern ridge offers views across the Chain O’Lakes. The preserve entrance lies less than a mile from U.S. Route 12, placing grocery stores, schools, and medical offices within a five-minute drive.
