Patriot’s Park covers 64 acres along the Fox River in Sandwich, Illinois, and includes a 1.8-mile paved trail that runs between the riverbank and the park’s athletic fields. The trail connects directly to the 3.5-mile Riverwalk segment of the Fox River Trail, allowing residents to bicycle or walk to downtown Sandwich and the city library without using a vehicle. Inside the park, four lighted baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, and six tennis courts are maintained by the Sandwich Park District; all are available for public use outside scheduled league times. A 4,800-square-foot playground opened in 2022 contains separate structures for ages 2–5 and 5–12, plus a splash pad that operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park also provides two picnic shelters, each with electrical outlets and adjacent parking, and a dog-exercise area enclosed by a four-foot fence. From the river overlook deck, visitors can watch waterfowl and, during spring migration, view bald eagles fishing in the channel. The park is a five-minute drive from Illinois Route 34 and the BNSF Metra station, making it convenient for commuters who want outdoor recreation close to home.
